I’m Alice Haddy from Streaky Bay, a seaside town on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. I studied at Endeavour College and have a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Naturopathy.

Through my studies I worked as a musician around South Australia, playing at markets, weddings, festivals, and local venues every weekend. I’ve been in love with music since I was small and found the flexibility and creative outlet of the job to be an excellent change of pace while studying.

As a teenager I became interested in the world of nutrition, though as a purist and a realist I found a struggle with the conflicting information portrayed by mainstream media. I became interested in finding an ideal way to live with the help of nutritional medicine, food as medicine and lifestyle techniques. After trying many cult diets and fads it became clear to me that there was a distinct disconnect between eating for health and following a craze.

I fell in love with herbalism first through visiting a naturopath myself and then more deeply throughout my studies. I shouldn’t play favourites, but I feel that herbalism is such an astounding, gentle yet robust art that has such a critical role in modern society. The traditions and heritage of herbalism astounded me more and more as I learnt about each herb. The synergy of constituents and the energetics of plants are passions of mine.

Coming from a rural upbringing, I have a sense of ambition to provide holistic healthcare to far out communities who otherwise do not have access due to their location. I have found in my own life that preventative medicine is a far more reasonable and important health care offering than we give it credit. I’m focused on finding ways to put your health first through lifestyle and dietary changes to promote a long and healthy life.

Recently I have found that my reasoning for working in the health field has broadened. The goal is not to achieve perfect health, it is to boost vitality, energy, motivation and wellbeing in order to feel your best, and achieve what you are passionate about whether it be your career, art, relationships and family. If we are all feeling our best, society will be a much brighter place.

Naturopathy is a health care system and philosophy that encompasses a variety of modalities such as functional nutrition, food as medicine, herbalism, flower essence therapy, hydrotherapy and iridology.
